JIE SHENG

ABOUT ME

Hello!

I am Jie and you can just call me "J". I am graduating this June from the University of Washington.

With an education background in visual communication design and digital media, I believe that where there are human beings, there is design. My passion for design is at the point where I think design is the way we conceive of a human-centered future.

I am enthusiastic about bringing the digital and tangible together. Creating a better experience is about connection - how we connect with the digital era as physical lives and how we connect to each other.

Worked as a UX designer in the medical devices and electric vehicles industry, excellent user experience is something you can not feel from my perspective. It is seamless and silky smooth to the point that you can't feel its presence. When you're driving, great car interaction design doesn't take your attention off the road; when you're seeing a patient, great medical device design keeps you focusing and observing the patient; when you're browsing, good web pages present the most useful information directly to you in beautiful form. Something I will be pursuing throughout my career is design that doesn't distract the users - it provides a quiet, safe, efficient, and supreme experience.

I would like to define myself as a fast learner - I may not be the most knowledgeable, but I can realize what I am lack of and then quickly gather information to learn efficiently, like a sponge thrown into the water.

I am a storyteller - I always advocate for the users. To care, to communicate, to understand, to empathize, to narrate their journey while stand in their shoes.

I have an eye for detail - given by my 15 years experiences of painting. I am always observing and notice every feature even those others can't find, and create pixel-perfect design works.

Apart from designer, I am

- a photographer: I have always been fascinated by the beauty of nature when I captured the lights and shadows.

- a cook: Many friends of mine find my dishes really delicious, and I am still on my way to exploring.

- a cat person: I have a cat named Mimi and now he is living with my parents in China.

- etc.

Please don't hesitate to reach out - I am more than happy to chat about work, answer any questions or have fun! I am sure we will become friends if you also like HMI design, photography, calligraphy arts, cats, Asian food, Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Fire Emblem: Three Houses, Attack on Titan, One OK Rock, or anything else interesting!
